The Affordable Care Act provides Premium Tax Credits (PTCs) to individuals and families who are enrolled in health insurance through the Massachusetts Health Connector. PTCs lower the cost of insurance premiums and can be received as a lump sum credit on a tax return or in advance (APTCs) to lower premiums during the year. HDAP clients who receive CHII premium assistance are required to apply for and receive PTCs in advance.
The amount of APTCs a client receives is based on the projected annual household income they estimate for the upcoming plan year and report on their Health Connector application. HDAP/CHII clients who receive APTCs must file federal taxes for the year they received them and must reconcile the amount of APTCs they received using Form 8962. They must also submit their completed tax forms to the BRIDGE Team after filing. See webinar recording and slides below and the Premium Tax Credits FAQ for more info.
