Julie K. Marston, MPH, AccessHealth MA’s Executive Director, co-founded Community Research Initiative (CRI) with Dr. Calvin J. Cohen in 1989. Ms. Marston is involved in all aspects of the organization’s strategic growth and operations. She is responsible for all fiscal, personnel, and program development decisions at AccessHealth MA.
Prior to her involvement with AccessHealth MA formerly CRI, Ms. Marston was Director of the first public health AIDS program within the Boston Department of Health and Hospitals, now the Boston Health Commission, overseeing all staff, the initiation of Title I Care Act funding for Boston, and the allocation of public health AIDS funding to a wide range of sites throughout the city. Previously, she was the Associate Administrator and Senior Staff Person to the Deputy Commissioner of Public Health, Dr. Sandy Lamb. In this role, Ms. Marston had administrative responsibility for all services within Boston Medical Center’s Ambulatory Care Center, fourteen departments within the public health department, two chronic care hospitals, and the Long Island Shelter for the Homeless and Project Trust. Ms. Marston was also among the founders of the Children’s AIDS Program (CAP), now the CAP House within the SPARK Center. CAP was the nation’s first respite care facility and foster care program for infants and young children with HIV/AIDS.
A graduate of Smith College, Ms. Marston holds an MPH from Boston University School of Public Health. She has lived in India, studied international health, and worked for the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, as well as the Center for Strengthening African Health within the Health Policy Institute at Boston University. She has served as a Steering Committee Member of the Boston AIDS Consortium, a Member of the Title I Planning Council, and a Board Member of Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD). Ms. Marston is currently a member of Women Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology, the American Public Health Association, and the Massachusetts Public Health Association.
