Community Resource Initiative’s Board and Committee members play a critical role in the short-term and long-term success that will allow our mission to be achieved.

Our boards and committees are key stakeholders who play a very important role in both actively raising awareness and funding for the agency.

Community Resource Initiative is looking for passionate, articulate, and effective champions of our mission. Serving as a board or committee member is one of the most challenging and rewarding of volunteer assignments. Our members are our most important ambassadors and financial supporters of the organization – both through individual giving and by introducing friends, donors, and advocates to our mission. Community Resource Initiative is dependent on Board and Committee members’ support in order to continue our mission.

About Community Resource Initiative’s Board of Directors

As the decision-making body at the highest level of organizational leadership, the Board of Directors have three primary legal duties known as the “duty of care,” “duty of loyalty,” and “duty of obedience.” They require that Board members:

  1. Take care of the nonprofit by ensuring prudent use of all assets, including facility, people, and good will; and provide oversight for all activities that advance the nonprofit’s effectiveness and sustainability. (Duty of care)
  2. Make decisions in the best interest of the nonprofit corporation; not in his or her self-interest. (Duty of loyalty)
  3. Ensure that the nonprofit obeys applicable laws and acts in accordance with ethical practices; that the nonprofit adheres to its stated corporate purposes, and that its activities advance its mission. (Duty of obedience)
Community Resource Initiative Board members are expected to:
  1. Understand and support Community Resource Initiative’s mission;
  2. Attend Board meetings and committee meetings as possible;
  3. Agree to make Community Resource Initiative a philanthropic priority;
  4. Review the organization’s financial reports and assume the fiduciary responsibility of a Board member;
  5. Play a role in strategic planning and assist Community Resource Initiative in setting our future direction;
  6. Participate on a Board Committee.
  7. Assist in the development and fundraising activities of the Board. We ask that Board members take a leadership role in at least one of our fundraising events.
  8. Act as community ambassador, educating your community and contacts about Community Resource Initiative; identifying potential corporate, foundation, and individual donors and advocates; and opening doors for our public relations and fundraising efforts;
  9. Be a team player within the Board of Directors;
  10. Work with the Executive Director and Director of Communications and Development as needed;
  11. Assist in the evaluation of the Executive Director;
  12. Help identify, recruit and orient new Board members;
  13. Evaluate the success of the Board of Directors and participate in improving performance;
  14. Keep discussions and reports confidential.

Applications of interest to join Community Resource Initiative’s Board of Directors are accepted and evaluated by AccessHealth MA’s Executive Leadership Team year-round . About Community Resource Initiative’s Emerging Leaders

As a group, the Emerging Leaders are charged with building and strengthening the community of young professionals engaged with Community Resource Initiative, raising critical funds and awareness to support the work of our programs.

All Emerging Leaders board members are expected to contribute the following:

  • Financial Support: Donate or raise at least $1,000 annually for Community Resource Initiative
  • Secure raffle items for events as needed
  • Make a one-year commitment
  • Attend bi-monthly committee meetings (at least 75% in person)
  • Attend, and recruit attendees for Emerging Leaders events, including networking events and fundraisers
  • Donate specific talents and skill sets to the group
  • Generate and share ideas on how to connect Community Resource Initiative to the community
  • Identify partnership opportunities that will allow our message to reach new groups in the Boston community, including new corporations, professional groups, and community organizations
  • Leverage their own skills and talents to support the work of the Emerging Leaders and Community Resource Initiative as a whole

About Community Resource Initiative’s CAB

Community Resource Initiative is committed to involving community members in all aspects of our operations. One way we facilitate this involvement is through the work of our Community Advisory Board (CAB), a group of dedicated individuals who serve as our community representatives.

The goals of the CAB are to:

  • Provide an open forum to discuss community concerns and needs.
  • Work with staff to review new study protocols and provide feedback on research efforts.
  • Ensure Community Resource Initiative works with all populations and assists in expanding access to the best available treatments and promote enrollment in clinical research studies.
  • Maximize the dissemination of culturally and linguistically appropriate information about treatment options to consumers and providers in all communities.
  • Develop, foster, and facilitate ongoing dialogue with all communities affected by HIV

Our CAB meets virtually every quarter with Community Resource Initiative staff leaders from the Research, Communications, Drug Assistance Programs, and other departments. The CAB’s members represent a variety of ages, races, ethnicities, and communities from throughout Massachusetts, including LGBTQ individuals, people over 50, people of color, and individuals with a history of substance use. We strives to have representation from communities most affected by HIV in our area. We are proud to recognize the hard work and contributions of all our current and past CAB members.

Benefits

Benefits of membership include being part of a diverse group of individuals that represent the community and which have come together to provide direction to Community Resource Initiative as well as to gain cutting edge knowledge about HIV treatment research.  Typically, a stipend is offered for meeting attendance.
